The song became an instant success in the United States, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 (United States) chart on August 132, number 2 on the Canada RPM Top Singles chart, number 4 on the UK Singles Chart, number 40 on the Kent Music Report (Australia), and number 1 on the Cash Box Top 100 (United States).
